I am Eric Wilson. I am a father, a citizen, and a regular person just like you. My hopes and dreams are for the betterment of my community and my country, for a better future for our children.
Too long our society has made politics the realm of the wealthy and privileged, and in turn those politicians turn their backs on the average citizen so they can maintain their wealth and position. I want to change that. I want to take this district back from the stranglehold of the parties, I want to encourage other average citizens to run for office in other districts, and I want to help create a reformed political system where the people come first instead of dollar signs.
To prove my point, to start with I want to take the financial aspect out of the equation. There is no reason a person in congress needs to earn more than $174k ever year, especially considering that on average they work 18 hours (or less) per week. So the very first promise I make is that $100k of my annual salary as a congressman will go directly into charities and programs in my community and district. If the government is giving that kind of money for my district it should benefit my district.
I cannot describe my position as aligned with either Republican or Democrat, and considering I am also against the hold these parties have on our system I am running as an independent. I believe in fairness, cooperation, equality and justice which I tend to see lacking in our government. Voting for me isn't just a vote for NC's 10th congressional district, it is a vote for the people. Once elected I will make a national effort to encourage others like me to do the same, to run against the opposition of the well funded parties and represent the interests of the people.
