I am of the opinion that healthcare is a right of every human being. Privatized insurance is a drain on public resources and prevents access to healthcare for millions of people. We need to join the rest of the developed world and create a functioning publicly funded healthcare system.

A publicly funded healthcare system shouldn't be considered a "handout". It is an investment. Healthy people are more productive people, and with access to healthcare many preventable diseases can be prevented and many other problems can be detected early enough to save lives. As representatives of the people it is the people whose interests we must serve, not of the insurance and healthcare companies.
