International Affairs and National Defense

America is not the authority of the world, nor should it be. Our troops are not the world's police, it is not our job to enforce our nation's laws and values on other regions, or to fight endless wars under a hazy banner like the "war on terror". We need to continue working with our allies to solve international problems, working with the UN, limiting our troop deployment to where they are actually needed and wanted.

We cannot distance ourselves from our allies by playing partisan politics. It is an embarrassment that we had dozens of members of congress attempt to undermine the negotiations of our president and our allies by sending a letter to Iran and our politicians need to understand that issues concerning the entire planet are not to be taken lightly, there is no place for obstructionism in government especially when it comes to global issues.

Our country has a larger military budget than any other. We spend more than 2.5 times the amount of money on the military as China does, China ranking number 2 in the world. As a nation which only shares borders with allies this is absurd. We already have one of the strongest armed forces in the world, there is no need to continue hemorrhaging funds to expand it further when we have much more pressing domestic issues to address. Should world peace not be the goal of every nation's leaders? That is a goal that absolutely cannot be solved by bullying, cannot be solved by threats, cannot be solved by trying to make other nations fear us. We need to lead by example. We teach our children to solve our problems with our words instead of fighting, why do our leaders seem to not understand this concept?

Our focus needs to be on working with our allies, monitoring our borders with our allies without militarizing them, reducing our nuclear arsenal, reducing our troops overseas and spending our money on working on our own country and problems.
